Joy in the Journey
The views are always better from the peaks of the mountain, but that is not where the journey takes place. True, once we arrive to the summit, our breath is robbed by the expanse of creation that lay before us, but there is also so much more to the victory of a mountaintop.
What was the journey like?
How dark did the valleys get?
Were there any caves that had you hemmed in, feeling like you were trapped?
Any large boulders or other obstacles that demanded you to go over, under, around, or through them?
What about rivers?
Were there any rapids that tested your metal, chilled you to the bones with its cold, or dashed you on the rocks?
The struggles we go through to get to the mountains crest only add to its beauty when we finally arrive. We may stand with arms outstretched in victory, or we may collapse in a combination of exhaustion and satisfaction of completing the climb and getting to take in the sight that our blood, sweat, and tears have bought us. Regardless, through the midst of the journey, it is the hope of the mountaintop that keeps us going.
As Christians, and as Working Believers, we are going to face hard days. For most people, that can be as simple as it being Monday, and having to return to the place of work that they hate so much. For others, it may be conflicts with specific people at work that make the days seem longer, and the hours insurmountable. Whatever the difficulty, there is always one truth to which we can cling:
Despite the struggle, God and His Word are unchanging!
When all seems hopeless, we can remember He who brought us Hope Eternal through Jesus Christ.
When we feel our patience and energy has been exhausted, we can remember He who strengthens and gives grace for the moment.
When nothing seems right, we can remember Him who has a plan, and is working all things out to our Good, if we love Him.
Remembering can be tough in the valleys and crags of the day to day, but none of those hardships ever change or weaken God's hold on us in Christ Jesus. We are His, and He is ours.
Take heart, Working Believer. Be still, remember, and be glad.
